Heart disease is sadly more common than you think, and I want to bring attention to why more women are dying of heart disease. Personally I have already lost school friends to heart disease… who have left behind devastated young families who still really need that parent in their lives.
Warning…my ranty pants are ON!
Heart disease is the #1 leading cause of death in women aged 45-65.
Women are 3 times more likely to die from heart disease than breast cancer. The saddest part is, it’s largely preventable.
I recorded a video to highlight the signs and symptoms of heart attacks.
One of the reasons heart attacks are so fatal in women is the early warning signs are missed and often treatment comes too late.
In the video I talk about the risk factors and the 4 things you can change right now, to lower your risk.
Heart attacks in women are rarely the heart grabbing, drop to the floor scenario we see on TV…
Women are more likely than men to experience non-chest pain symptoms
– Jaw, shoulder or neck pain
– Nausea or vomiting
– Shortness of breath/difficulty breathing
– Fatigue and tiredness
Risk factors for heart disease, common to men and women include:
– Being overweight or obese
– Waist measure over 88 cm in women, 110cm in men
– High blood pressure
– High LDL cholesterol (in the video I explain why not all cholesterol is bad)
– Diabetes – Type 2
Specific risk factors for women…
– Aged over 45 (over 30 for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women)
– Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
– Premature menopause
– Autoimmune conditions
– Some cancer treatments
The earlier you CHOOSE to reduce your risk, the better. #Sorrynotsorry but I’m going to be direct and not going to mince words today… (ALL marketing protocol is being thrown out the window!!)
Think about your health now… are you happy with that?
Are you in a high risk category?
Do you need to make some changes?
What do things look like a year from now if you don’t?
If you’re already actively making choices and daily actions to change and improve your health, I applaud you!
But I have to ask…
If not..why not?
Do you need my help?
